Family History Research Services

Family Tree Research

We can research your family history for you, taking your family tree back as far as historical records will allow - often as far back as the 1800s or earlier.

A family tree research project typically involves searching resources such as parish registers and census records and obtaining copies of birth, marriage and death certificates in order to discover more about the lives of your ancestors. Additional resources such as trade directories, newspaper articles and burial records may shed even more light on your family's past.

We have already successfully researched many families from all over the UK, including Scotland and Ireland, and of course our own ancestors, the Nurse family! Howdenshire History's chief researcher, Susan, is a longstanding local historian, published author and family history tutor; research associate Amy is also an experienced local and family history researcher and tutor. Whatever your query, we can guarantee to provide you with a high-quality, professional research service.

As well as researching and presenting your family tree details, we can also offer the additional option of having your family's story professionally written in bound book format. This can include your own memories and family pictures, making a wonderful heirloom which can be passed on to children and grandchildren.

If you are interested in researching your family tree, please contact us so that we can discuss your research requirements.

Searching Local Resources

We can visit the Yorkshire archives on your behalf in order to search for specific local records relating to your ancestors - for example, old local newspapers, parish records and wills. Please visit the archive research page for more details.

Local Photography Service

We can provide local photographs of historic buildings and your ancestors' gravestones in East Yorkshire. This popular service allows you to envisage the town, village or street in which your family once lived - sometimes it is even possible to locate and photograph your ancestor's exact house.
