Goole last engine
At the end of steam locomotion and the start of transfer to diesel a group of teenagers were all at a loose end awaiting transfer to other jobs.
This loco 90427 was the last steam engine to work out of Goole Shed and is pictured here leaving for its last trip. The driver was possibly Ernie Wood.
Three of the lads at work at the time, Dennis Garner, Sam Robinson and Kevin Braithwaite thought it would be a good idea to mark this event by naming the engine Jimi Hendrix. Kevin Braithwaite climbed on front of the engine and wrote Jimi Hendrix Express. The date was 1967.
The Goole Times photographer was there so the picture ended up on the front page.
